In simple terms, business or a brand website hosts business or brand information as text, photographs, graphics and video or audio files on webpages and serves them to the visitors when requested.
Another way to look at a business or brand website is to consider it as the virtual representation or even the mirror of your real world business or brand.
We will frequently refer back to this concept throughout our website and blog.
Just like your real world business or brand exists to serve your customers, your website must do the same. It is important to remember: although the website belongs to you, it is not for you. It is for your client!
It depends on where you are now and where you want to take your business or brand.
There are many successful businesses and brands that operate without websites.
If you're a local business with clients lined up at your door and demand exceeding supply, you might not need a website at this moment.
That said, in today's world, people typically turn to Google to verify authenticity, read reviews, and find locations. For this reason, even local businesses that don’t plan to engage in serious marketing often maintain an online presence, usually in the form of a simple brochure-style website.
Domain name is the address of your website. Just like your house has a unique address, each website has a unique domain name. For example, the domain name of this website is ‘sagepixels.com.au’.
The part of the domain name after the first ‘dot’ is called the TLD (Top-Level Domain). It helps categorise and identify the type, purpose, and, when relevant, the geographical area of the website.
For instance, the ‘.au’ after ‘.com’ on this website indicates that it's an Australian website.
This assures prospective customers that the website belongs to a registered Australian business, as the ‘.com.au’ TLD is only available to registered businesses in Australia with an Australian Business Number (ABN).
Yes, you can, and more often than not, you should!
For example, this site is sagepixels.com.au, but if you type sagepixels.com into the address bar, you get redirected to the same place.
If a domain name is the address of a property, web hosting is the physical space that belongs to that address — think of it as your land.
Just like land has physical attributes like length, width, and area, hosting spaces also have limits and characteristics that determine whether they are suitable for building your website — the structure of your online presence.
Just as high traffic and visitors require wide roads and large spaces, websites with a lot of content and visitors will need more bandwidth and space. The good news is that, thanks to technological advancements over the past few decades, even high-quality hosting space is relatively inexpensive today.
You have the address (Domain name).
You have the land (Hosting space).
We build your structure (Website).
What fills that structure is your content! Without content, your website is just an empty building, and no one will find it useful. Content includes text, graphics, photos, and videos.
We design based on the content that needs to be delivered, a process we call ‘content-driven design.’
It means we design the site for the content, rather than forcing content into a pre-made design or a template.
To put it simply, we design to fit the content—just like cutting a coat to fit the man, not the man to fit the coat!
Ideally, your domain name should match your business or company name.
If you've already registered your business name but the domain isn't available, we can use some creative language tricks and hacks to find a close alternative.
If you haven't yet registered your business name, you can select one that also has an available domain.
You register a domain with a Domain Registrar of your choice.
When you register a domain, you obtain the right to use that domain name. However, it’s important to understand that you’re essentially renting the name; no one can truly own a domain.
The registrant—whether an individual or a business—retains the exclusive rights to use the domain name. This is why it’s crucial for you or your business entity to register the domain directly.
Beware of hosting offers that bundle “free domain registration.”
Such offers often mean that the hosting provider, not you, becomes the registrant, giving them control over your domain name.
When we purchase domain names on behalf of our clients, we always register them in the client’s name. We also create individual accounts with the domain registrar, complete with unique usernames and passwords. All login information is provided to our clients in both printed and secure digital formats. Once our service agreement concludes, we permanently delete any copies of this data.
Domain registration typically costs between $10 and $30 per year, depending on factors such as the top-level domain (TLD), registrar, and registration period.
Web hosting needs to be purchased from a hosting service provider.
For all the sites we design and develop, we use our own carefully chosen hosting providers, selected for their speed, uptime, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Every website we design and develop is bespoke—tailored specifically to your needs. We don’t use pre-built themes or templates. Instead, we create websites from scratch, adhering to industry standards, with user-friendly interfaces and mobile optimisation for an excellent user experience.
We design your website specifically for the content you provide, ensuring it meets the needs of your customers and audience. To achieve the best results, the quality of your content—whether it’s copy, graphics, or visuals—must be of high standard.
For most websites, 12 weeks from the time of receiving all the finalised copy/text, graphics, and images from the client.
You can write the content yourself or hire a copywriter to do it for you. We recommend hiring a copywriter who is skilled in writing for the web.
Please note that no copywriter knows what your business is, what you offer or your vision for the future, so it is your job to sit down with your copywriter and provide the information he or she needs to convert your information into an audience-centric, easily readable, SEO friendly copy for your website.
To reiterate: The content must be tailored to your target audience, easy to read, and optimised for search engines to achieve the desired results—this is where the expertise of a competent copywriter comes in!
Yes, the content of the site includes logos, graphics, photographs, and even videos depending on what you want to tell your audience.
We need all the content for us to align them with your targets and to plan the information architecture before getting into the design and development.
If you want us to provide the Content Services to produce the visual content, please let us know well in advance for us to discuss, plan and produce the required content.
We use WordPress as the content management system (CMS) to build websites.
The structure or 'design' of the site is developed separately and integrated into the CMS once the content is finalised. This is why we need all text, images, graphics, and other visuals before we begin the design process.
As mentioned before, we do not use pre-made themes or templates. All the sites we create are bespoke, designed specifically for your content and needs.
We primarily use WordPress because it provides the best value and return on investment for most businesses. Over the years, we've found that WordPress offers the flexibility, scalability, and user-friendliness that most clients need.
That said, if your project requires a different approach, we'll discuss it with you during the initial consultation to ensure we choose the right solution for your goals.
Yes, we do and we also provide the technical management as well.
If you're looking for simple changes like a colour update or text revision, then a full site redesign isn't necessary. These updates fall into the category of minor site changes, and we can help connect you with someone who can assist.
However, any significant redesign is effectively a new build. During the redesign process, your existing site remains live. Once we've completed the new site and testing, we'll push the updated version live, so your audience experiences the 'redesign' on the same domain.
Yes, all the websites we build are responsive and mobile-optimised.
We prioritise the mobile version at the start of the design process. In today’s digital world, where mobile devices are the primary means of content consumption, how a site performs on mobile devices is far more important than how it looks on a desktop monitor.
Yes, we set up the basic SEO functionality on all the websites we develop. We specifically optimise your homepage and main services pages to ensure they are discoverable by Google and other search engines.
For more advanced SEO, we offer separate SEO packages tailored to your needs.
That depends!
Many promise this, but often without context or clear objectives. The real question is: the first page of what?
The initial optimisation we perform can help your site rank higher, especially if it has a unique name, as it may show up on top when searched for that specific name.
As a business, we need to identify what you want to be known for, understand what people are searching for, and ensure your site ranks well for the right search terms in the relevant location. Achieving this takes effort and strategy!
Three options are available
Build and Take Over:
We build the website, and you take over the management from there.
We’ll train you or your designated person initially using online resources, followed by a one-on-one session to ensure you're confident in managing the basics.
Build and Provide Total Maintenance:
We handle all backend tasks, including uploading regular content to your website.
(This option does not apply to eCommerce sites—please refer to the third option.)
Total backend access remains exclusive to our staff.
Build and Provide Technical Maintenance:
We manage the technical maintenance and updates, while you take care of the content, products, and sales aspects.
All eCommerce site maintenance agreements fall under this category.
Total backend access is restricted and available only to our staff.
All the sites we manage are backed up on a regular basis.
Additionally, we perform all major technical updates, such as WordPress version updates, script, and plugin updates, on a mirror site we create. After testing, we push the updated mirror to the live site to ensure smooth and uninterrupted functionality.
If you take over the site maintenance, you will be responsible for updating and uploading content yourself.
If you enter into a maintenance agreement with us (which includes hosting), only our team will perform the updates.
Not a problem!
We purchase your domains and hosting on your behalf by creating separate accounts with domain registrars and hosting providers. At the end of the agreement or when you wish to leave, we simply hand over those accounts to you.
Our fee is directly proportionate to the number of hours each of our team members has to work to complete the project.
The provided costs are excluding taxes (if and when applicable), and are approximations for you to get an estimate of the financials involved.
The final fee will depend on the components and the total workload required for a customised solution tailored to each client’s needs.
Our fees start at $1500 (AUD).
Domain registration fees vary depending on the TLD, the registrar, and the length of the registration period.
For .au ccTLDs (.au country code top level domains), you can visit the .au Domain Administration Limited (auDA) and check out all the registrars and prices yourself.
For other country code TLDs, please visit the respective ccTLD authority of that country or authorised registrars.
For generic TLDs (.com, .net, .org, etc.), just do a Google search to find authorized registrars. We do the domain purchasing on your behalf as a part of our web designing service, and we do not charge extra fees or commissions for providing this service.
Depends on the requirements of your website, and what we charge usually varies between $25 – $35 per month for most websites.
This applies for copywriting by us.
If you provide the entire copy (text) of the website, there won’t be any fees incurred. Again, the fee depends on the number of hours our copywriters have to work.
Applies to branding and design by us.
If you provide all the branding and graphic elements, no fee will be incurred.
Applies to Photography and Videography by us.
If you provide all the visuals, any fees won’t be incurred.
We do not charge fees for royalty-free image searches.
